  • Enhancing mental and emotional resilience: EMDR intensives can equip you with the tools to navigate upcoming life transitions, such as weddings, parenthood, medical procedures, career changes, or relocation.

What is EMDR Intensive Therapy?

EMDR Intensive Therapy offers a focused approach to accelerate your healing journey. Instead of weekly sessions, intensives dedicate a concentrated block of time - 3 hours - for in-depth EMDR work. This eliminates the gap between sessions, allowing you to delve deeper into processing and potentially experience faster progress. It's a streamlined way to harness the power of EMDR and potentially achieve significant results in a shorter timeframe.

Before the EMDR Intensive:

We begin with a comprehensive pre-intensive interview to map your healing journey. This includes assessing your current support system, ongoing stressors, and coping mechanisms. We'll collaboratively define the areas where you’re looking for relief, growth, or a significant breakthrough.

The EMDR Intensive Experience:

The intensive itself focuses on a two-pronged approach:

  • Desensitization: We'll utilize EMDR reprocessing techniques to address and lessen the emotional intensity of past experiences.

  • Resource Building: Techniques like guided imagery and self-exploration, combined with EMDR's bilateral stimulation, will strengthen your positive coping mechanisms and self-perception.

The program is inherently personalized. We may explore early attachment experiences if relevant to your progress, or prioritize future-oriented goals for others. Notably, incorporating your faith into the process is always an option.

Following the EMDR Intensive:

A post-intensive session allows us to reflect on the most impactful elements of your experience. We'll discuss how to integrate these learnings into your daily life and encourage you to share valuable insights with your support system to celebrate your progress together.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Studies suggest that concentrated trauma-focused therapy, like EMDR intensives, is well-tolerated by individuals with PTSD. This approach may lead to faster symptom reduction with outcomes that are comparable to, or even surpass, those achieved in traditional therapy formats. Additionally, intensives may reduce the likelihood of patients prematurely discontinuing treatment.

Research also indicates that EMDR intensives are a feasible option and demonstrate promise in achieving significant improvements in PTSD symptoms within a condensed timeframe.

There's also a potential economic benefit. Compared to traditional trauma therapy, intensives may lead to shorter overall treatment times due to several factors:

Reduced time spent on initial check-ins at each session.

Less need to address ongoing crises or concerns that may not directly relate to trauma processing.

Focus on core trauma healing skills rather than general coping mechanisms.

  • My EMDR intensives are conveniently offered online throughout Texas, allowing you to participate from the comfort of your own space. The intensive format provides a concentrated experience similar to a personal retreat, allowing for deep dives into your therapeutic goals.

To maximize your progress, it's recommended to schedule downtime outside of sessions. This allows for unstructured time or activities that promote self-care, such as exercise, bodywork, or creative expression (drawing, painting, cooking).

These activities can support emotional processing and enhance the overall effectiveness of the program.

  • Some insurance plans may offer partial reimbursement for EMDR Intensive therapy. It's important to note that insurance companies typically require specific codes to justify coverage. For the most accurate information on your individual plan, we recommend calling the customer service number on your insurance card. We're happy to provide additional information or resources to assist you in navigating this process.

  • EMDR intensives offer a concentrated approach to trauma-focused therapy, potentially leading to progress that might be achieved in traditional therapy over a longer timeframe. This condensed format can be appealing for those seeking to accelerate their healing journey. When considering the total cost of weekly sessions, EMDR intensives may also be a cost-effective option depending on your specific circumstances.
